George Bush Breaks Golden Rule
Is George doing unto Iraq as he would have it do unto us? Is it now acceptable for one nation to attack another, take out its leader and interfere with its politics without direct provocation. Is that what America does unto others? Is that the example we want to set? Why isn't anyone calling him on his religious convictions. Does he not understand what Jesus was talking about?
The golden rule appears in so many of the great world religions. (Click here for a link with examples). Yet, political and religious leaders all over the world don't seem to get it. It makes me sad because we have everything we need in this world. Together we can make it work. All we have to do is follow the golden rule.
Bad leadership discourages the citizenry.
Good leadership inspires it.

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded with patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader, and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.

A Very Stupid Law
Temporary irritability and loss of appetite are the
relatively mild withdrawal symptoms one experiences upon discontinuing the
use of marijuana. Most of us will have observed by now that it is far more
difficult for people to quit smoking cigarettes or stop drinking alcohol.
If we are smart enough to make our own decisions regarding alcohol and tobacco,
why is there a perception that we are incapable of choosing wisely when it
comes to marijuana? Why does the ‘Land Of The Free’ suddenly become ‘The Land
of The Prohibited’? Are these questions worth answering? I would say “No”,
if little or no harm were being done. However, in the case of marijuana, great
harm is being done due to current federal law. Why do we still live by a law
that divides our families, our nation and our world? Why are we preventing
our farmers from growing this valuable cash crop? What exactly are we protecting
ourselves from? Is it the relatively safe high? Could it be the mild withdrawal
symptoms? Is this enough of a reason to deny its remarkable history as a source
for medicine, fuel, (It can produce four times the amount of ethanol per acre
than corn), clothing, paper, food, rope, etc. It can be grown on secondary
farmland. It’s a weed. It does not deplete the soil. Birds love hemp seed.
This law that denies us the many benefits of this amazing plant is just plain
stupid. This law which forces our government to waste great sums of money
prohibiting a product they should be profiting from is stupid. So why is this
stupid law still in place? Basically, it is the inability of our leaders,
be they demoquack or repelican, to actually do something about ‘special interest’
groups. In presidential campaigns both parties tell the same lie. “When we
get in to Washington ‘Special Interests’ go out”. Of course, neither party
is able to keep this promise. We are wasting huge amounts of money imprisoning
people who shouldn't be in jail. The prison lobby is strong. We are still
relying on foreign oil for fuel when we could be growing our own. The oil
lobby is strong. There are countless patients suffering who would benefit
greatly from the use of this medicine. Yet, they are denied. The pharmaceutical
lobby is strong.
Prohibition doesn't really work in a free country. Yet, somehow powerful lobbyists
are doing all they can to keep things as they are. They have found ways to
get around the checks and balances that are built into our government. They
and those they represent are never held accountable. Not even a president
seems able to call for accountability, (or admit his own). And we the people
are inclined by nature to follow these poor examples. We tend to have a flock
mentality. And right now we are totally flocked. We have even been failing
to hold ourselves accountable for allowing this insanity to continue for so
long. And so, a harmful, divisive and very stupid law remains in place.
